Volunteers

We would first like to thank all our previous volunteers for generously and selflessly giving their time to ABL. ABL Utilizes the talents of over 500 volunteers to produce its life changing results.  Each summer, over 300 volunteers from diverse industries and backgrounds contribute.

Overview: ABL recognizes the time pressures on today’s professionals.  Therefore, volunteer opportunities are tailored to suit each individual’s time schedule.  Volunteer opportunities can range from a one-time one hour presentation (during the Summer Business Institute) to up to 10 hours per month as a ML BOLT (Building Outstanding Leaders Today) mentor.  ML BOLT is a follow-up ten-month program targeting the top 20-25% of the SBI graduates (student ranking is based on overall performance during SBI).

Skills Necessary to Participate:  Passion to make a difference in the life of an underserved youth; prior presentation and facilitation skills are helpful.  All volunteers are asked to fill out an ABL volunteer survey that assesses their availability and areas of interest.  One-on-one mentors are matched based on shared interests.  Business attire is required for SBI and ML BOLT speakers.  Business casual is acceptable for Saturday seminar mentors.  An orientation and a training workshop are provided by ABL for the ML BOLT one-on-one mentors.  In addition, all one-on-one mentors are fingerprinted for their and their mentee’s protection in compliance with the rules and guidelines set forth by the California Governor’s Mentoring Partnership.  All SBI and BOLT volunteers are invited to attend the students’ presentations and graduation at the dates listed below.  If you are interested in attending any of ABL’s special events, please contact Nadia Khawaja or Anna Ouroumian.
